Some people are so terrified that they won't even do the "white-hat" stuff. They don't do it at all!
Backlinking comes down to 2 things:
1. Source
2. Anchor text
Now as long as the source is healthy, the only real thing to worry about is anchor text. And I know people do.
So that's what I want to talk about in this thread...
Naked URL
Naked URL means the base form of URL you would just copy & paste from your address bar.
EXAMPLE:
https://blogyourneed.blogspot.com title="BLOG YOUR NEEDS"
Notice the / at the end?
This is the most common way of sharing information and Google knows it.
Pay attention to yourself next time you share something over Skype or FB chat. Simple copy & paste amiright?
That's why it's possible to easily "abuse" this anchor type and use it extensively.
Solid on-page + raw power injected through the links does wonders sometimes.
It's even better when your URL contains your target keyword.
You can vary your naked URL variants for even greater security by removing http:// or / at the end etc.
RECOMMENDED PLACEMENT:
Anywhere (really)
TITLE
The most under-utilized anchor type since the death of bookmarks.
Similar to naked URL, it's a copy & paste version of your
EXAMPLE:
BLOG NEEDS Success: Never give up! | BLOG YOUR NEEDS
Once again, the Title usually contains your keyword. But since Google can see it's the Title, you can use it much more than you would just keyword itself.
Now it's not as abuse-able as naked URL but still much more than keyword rich anchor tests directly.
RECOMMENDED PLACEMENT:
Bookmarking sites (index-able ones)
-
Contextual - within the article body as "You might also like" recommendation link or at the end citing the Source.
-
tag Title attribute with mics word as anchor - EXAMPLE:
BRANDED KEYWORD
Keyword + brand. Also, make sure it makes sense and look like a real reference by adding misc words like in, for, by, from etc and using capitalization.
EXAMPLE:
Keyword:
chicago dentist
Anchor:
ZocDoc is dentist in Chicago
As you can probably tell, this type of anchor text is the "riskiest" but still much safer than keyword rich ones alone.
You can feel it right? : )
Adding misc words to your anchor texts is an extra tip btw ;)
RECOMMENDED PLACEMENT:
Contextual
CORE WORD
This one is a little tricky because sometimes it's hard to define but it works wonders (it might actually be a loophole but it's been around for quite sometime).
Unfortunately, this doesn't work for 1 word keywords.
Core word is something that makes up the keyword. You don't want to rank for the core word (it's nearly impossible anyway) just use it as anchor text.
We would use the core word alone as a separate anchor text.
EXAMPLE 1:
buy youtube views
The core words in this case are buy, YouTube and views.
EXAMPLE 2:
chicago dentist
The core words in this case are chicago and dentist
EXAMPLE 3:
garcinia cambogia extract
The core words in this case are garcinia, cambogia and extract.
RECOMMENDED PLACEMENT:
Contextual
